How We Work

Our Process

Building a custom space involves several steps, each crucial for ensuring the final result meets your expectations. Here's a general outline of the process.

Construction process steps

01

Define Your Needs and Budget

Every great project starts with a clear vision. We sit down with you to understand what you want to build, where you want to build it, and what you have to work with. This first conversation helps us align on scope, style, and financial expectations before anything is committed to paper.

02

Meet with Us

At this phase of the process, it is crucial to select your builder. At Watson Construction, we want to be a part of every step of the design process. This has proven to save our clients time and money.

  • During this time, if you select Watson Construction as your builder, a contract of intent is signed to secure your spot and the pre-construction work starts.
03

Design Phase

With your builder selected, we move into detailed design. This is where your vision gets translated into buildable plans.

  • Hire an Architect or Designer: Work with an architect or designer to create detailed plans. They will translate your vision into architectural drawings that account for structural integrity, aesthetics, and functionality.
  • Conceptual Design: Brainstorming and sketching to explore different design ideas and layouts.
  • Design Development: Once you settle on a concept, the design is refined further, incorporating more details such as materials, finishes, and interior features.
  • Permitting: Obtain necessary permits from local authorities before construction begins. This may involve submitting architectural plans for review and approval.
04

Key Tips for a Smooth Experience

Understanding what to expect during the process makes the entire experience more enjoyable for everyone involved.

  • Stay Organized: Keep all documents, contracts, and communications in one place.
  • Communicate Regularly: Maintain open lines of communication with Watson Construction.
  • Make Decisions Early: Choosing finishes, materials, and upgrades early prevents delays.
  • Plan for the Unexpected: Build a contingency budget for unforeseen expenses and changes.
  • Be Patient: Building a home takes time. Enjoy the process and the milestones along the way.
05

Construction Phase

Approved plans in hand, we break ground. This is where the magic happens — and where Watson Construction's commitment to quality shows most clearly.

  • Pre-Construction Meeting: Meet with us to finalize the construction timeline, project schedule, and any other pertinent details.
  • Site Preparation: Clear the land, prepare the foundation, and complete any necessary grading or excavation.
  • Building the Structure: Construct the framework of the house, including walls, roof, windows, and doors. This phase also involves installing plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
  • Interior Finishes: Flooring, cabinetry, countertops, paint, trim, and fixtures.
  • Exterior Finishes: Siding, roofing, landscaping, and any additional features like decks or patios.
  • Final Inspections: Local building authorities will conduct inspections at various stages to ensure compliance with codes and regulations.
  • Punch List: A final list of any remaining tasks or deficiencies to address before completion.
06

Move In

Once construction is complete and all inspections have passed, it's time to move into your new custom home. We coordinate with you to transfer ownership and get your keys in hand.

07

Post-Construction

Our relationship doesn't end at move-in. Even after you're settled in, we remain available during warranty periods and follow-up visits to address any issues that arise.

  • Stay in communication with Watson Construction to ensure any concerns are promptly addressed.
  • Warranty coverage provides peace of mind throughout the post-construction period.
